Goodbye August - or - 9 more months to go.

Well, I have discovered the pitfall of having to resort to a community health clinic. I have to wait. For weeks! The earliest appointment they could give me is not until the 23rd of September. *sigh* I have half a mind to just walk-in but I feel like, if they are already this backed up for appointments, the waiting room is probably another story entirely. I'm not really sure what to do and am concerned that this lengthy waiting process is not going to get me to Mongolia (or anywhere else, for that matter) anytime soon. Certainly not in the anticipated 9 month time frame that remains. 9 months!

I still can't find anyone to give me a polio booster. I am going to get in touch with the health department tomorrow and see if maybe they offer it. *crosses fingers*

I made phone calls to ICD members in my area that are willing to see Peace Corps applicants for free...I got machines and no phone calls back by the end of business hours today. Errgghhh. I am wondering...I have 2 impacted wisdom teeth. Both are in the bottom of my mouth, one is partially erupted. They've been like that since my freshman year in college (6 years ago....uggghhh, haha) and have never caused me any pain or problems. I don't know if they will have to be removed. Anyone have any insight in this? I am going to try this ICD people again tomorrow...I'm also going to try and plead my case to my former orthodontist and see if he'll do an exam for me at reduced cost. All about utilizing the ties one has, I suppose.

Hello, September!

I wouldnt worry too much about the delay, it took me about a month to get all my paperwork completed and they didnt even START looking at my medical file until the beginning of July (my nomination if for November...) When I talked to a PC nurse she said they usually dont look at medical files until their departure date is within 3 or 4 months.

Ahhh, thanks for the tip. I didn't know that they waited to review files! Definitely good to know. I suppose I have a lot of waiting and trying not to worry to look forward to!
Thanks again and good luck! I hope all goes well with your placement!

Your gonna be fine. Check your health department. Thats where I got my Polio booster. I think it was like 75 bucks, plus I had to sit through an hour consultation before it =/ Also I have a feeling that those wisdom teeth are gonna need to be pulled. Good Luck!

Hey, thanks! :) I actually got in touch with the health department yesterday afternoon and everything seems to be alright. They can't decide if they want to charge me $55 or $75, though. Ugh, I'm going to hope for the best on the wisdom teeth.
Thanks for the advice...and congrats on your invite! I hope the rest of your time in the States is amazing. Good luck with the packing! :)

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled last week. There is a section on the dental exam where your dentist will pretty much check a box recommending if you should get them removed or not but 9 times out of 10 the PC requires it. My surgery cost about $1,300 before insurance. Plan ahead, just to be safe and above all else just keep pushing through one obstacle after the next because in the end this tedious process makes you value the experience in the end.
